Weekend in Sibiu; City Break Sibiu - Travel to Romania 2012

Itinerary:

1st Day - Arrival and guided city tour
Arrival and pick up at the airport, meeting with the guide and transfer to your hotel or pension. After a refreshment break, we take a guided tour of Sibiu (about 3 hours walk) through the historic core of the medieval city. The walk takes you through the Large and Small Square, the Liars' Bridge, the many stairs and little towers of downtown and the Protestant parish church on the Huet Square. Atfer the tour we have a briefing with detailed information about the itinerary.


2nd Day - Sibiu and surroundigs individually
Proposals for the morning: visit the museums (Brukenthal, Pharmacy, History, Natural, etc) and exhibitions in the historical centre and the ASTRA open air museum in Dumbrava forest. Take a lunch break in the historical centre with Saxon or Romanian cuisine. In the afternoon we reccommend you a visit at the Culture House Teutsch / Erasmums Büchercafe and some antiquities shops. During the evening enjoy the piano bar (Atrium Cafe) near the Liars Bridge or some Jazz in the Empire Pub.


3rd Day - Excursion: Cultural Landscapes in Transylvania: Hartibaciu Valley / 150 km
After breakfast we start our trip through the Southern Transylvania. We beginn by visiting the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey in Carta, then take the old ferry over the Olt, visit a orthodox church (with Grecu paintings) in Sasausi, drive through Kirchberg (Chirpar) to the UNESCO Information point in Altana and have a picnic in the courtyard of a family Alma vii. The afternoon ends with the cheese tasting in Mosna. We return via Medias.


4th Day - Morning at leisure, departure home
Attend a church service (ex. at 10:00 clock in the Protestant church / German language or a Orthodox religious service in the Cathedral) or visit the Cibin vegetable and cheese market. Around noon time transfer to airport or individual extension of the stay.
 

Overnight:
Accommodation is in guesthouses and small hotels in the old town or very close to the city center. Very good ratio price / quality, categories 3 and 4 stars.
